In early times, with a registered capital of 60 million yuan, the company laid a solid financial foundation. Initially, it focused on the production of basic chemical products. The initial product lineup included environmentally friendly high-boiling aromatic solvents (Solvent naphtha, TOPSOL, KOCOSOL, Aromatic Hydrocarbon, TOLUENE AROMATIC HYDROCARBON, NAFTA DISOLVENTE SOLVESSO) such as S-100, S-150, S-150ND, S-180, and S-200, Heat transfer oils L-QC320 and other main intermediate products along with products like durene, PVC plasticizers, thiophene, 1,3-Cyclohexanedione, MIPK, TMOF, TMOA, HPA, and TMG.

These products were mainly sourced from major refineries and aromatic plants such as Sinopec, PetroChina, ChemChina, Zhejiang Petrochemical, and Hengli Petrochemical. By leveraging these reliable raw material sources, the company was able to ensure product quality from the start. At that time, the production capacity reached 720,000 tons per year, and the products were mainly sold in domestic markets such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, as well as directly to Sinopec and PetroChina. Today, we are fully capable of supplying global markets, including regions such as Asia, Europe, America, and Southeast Asia.

As the years passed, Shandong Saier Chemical Technology Development Co., Ltd. recognized the importance of innovation and technological advancement. It began to invest significantly in research and development. The company aimed to improve production efficiency, enhance product quality, and develop more environmentally friendly products. For instance, in response to the growing demand for energy-saving and environmentally friendly products in the market, the company optimized its production processes. It explored new production technologies to reduce energy consumption and waste generation. This led to the company's recognition as a national high-tech enterprise, which not only brought more policy support but also enhanced its brand image in the industry.

Industrial Analysis of Solvent Naphtha & Paint Thinners

An expert guide on solvent chemistry, synthesis processes, and international procurement standards.

1. Chemical Composition and Solvent Properties

Solvent Naphtha is a complex, high-boiling petroleum distillate consisting predominantly of C9 to C10 aromatic hydrocarbons. Characterized by its high solvency power, high flashpoint, and controlled evaporation rates, it serves as the ultimate base for manufacturing industrial paint thinners. Unlike simple solvents, solvent naphtha provides a balanced evaporation profile that prevents surface defects (such as orange-peel effects or solvent popping) during paint drying and curing.

The solvation capability is measured by the Kauri-Butanol (KB) value. Premium solvent naphthas from our factory maintain a high KB index (typically greater than 90), indicating an excellent capacity to dissolve synthetic resins, alkyds, acrylics, epoxies, and polyurethanes used in heavy-duty protective coatings.

2. The Refining and Distillation Process

Our state-of-the-art fractional distillation towers isolate specific cuts from refined petroleum feedstocks. By controlling temperatures and pressure, we separate fractions into precise grades:

  • Aromatic Solvent S100: Boiling range 160–180°C. Ideal for quick-drying industrial primers and agricultural formulations.
  • Aromatic Solvent S150 & S150ND (Naphthalene Depleted): Boiling range 180–210°C. Tailored for automotive coatings and coil coatings where low volatility is critical.
  • Aromatic Solvent S200: Boiling range 220–290°C. Designed for heavy industrial applications, oilfield chemicals, and low-volatility paint formulations.

3. Quality Assurance and E-E-A-T Standards

Operating out of the Qilu Chemical Industrial Park, our plant leverages feedstock supply agreements with leading oil conglomerates like Sinopec and PetroChina. This vertical integration allows us to inspect raw material purity prior to processing. Our in-house testing lab utilizes Gas Chromatography (GC) and ASTM-standard test suites to verify density, flashpoint, color index, water content, and aromatic purity, ensuring every drum matches international safety and quality protocols.

Localized Application Scenarios & Industry Evolution

The evolving landscape of solvent technologies and eco-friendly coatings.

Industrial Applications & Scenarios

Naphtha-based paint thinners and high-boiling aromatic solvents are core elements across several major sectors:

  • Heavy Marine & Protective Coatings: Provides optimal levelling and viscosity reductions in epoxy and polyurethane-based anti-corrosion marine paints.
  • Automotive and OEM Coatings: Enables flawless finishes under heat curing systems, ensuring paint particles align correctly without premature evaporation.
  • Agrochemical Emulsifiable Concentrates (EC): Solvent naphtha acts as an inert carrier, offering high active ingredient loading and stability under temperature extremes.
  • Industrial Cleaning and Degreasing: Ideal for precision cleaning of equipment parts, dissolving oily residues and heavy grease without leaving residue.

Future Industry Trends: Shift Toward Low-VOC & Green Technology

The global solvent market is undergoing a significant shift towards environmentally friendly formulations. Regulatory pressures regarding VOC emissions have accelerated the adoption of naphthalene-depleted (ND) aromatic solvents. Saier Chemical is at the forefront of this shift, optimizing processing systems such as zeolite rotor systems to manage emissions, and refining purification mechanisms to synthesize dearomatized solvents that meet environmental regulations without compromising solvency power.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common technical, logistics, and procurement questions.

What is the difference between Solvent Naphtha and standard Paint Thinner?
Solvent Naphtha is a pure, high-boiling aromatic hydrocarbon mixture (primarily C9-C10) produced from petroleum refining. Paint Thinner is a broader commercial term referring to formulated solvent blends (often combining naphtha, mineral spirits, ketones, and alcohols) customized to dilute specific paints.
How does Shandong Saier guarantee the quality of its high-boiling solvents?
We source raw feedstocks from oil majors like Sinopec and PetroChina. Our state-of-the-art laboratory employs Gas Chromatography (GC) and ASTM-compliant tests to analyze parameters like flashpoint, distillation range, and density, ensuring every batch meets international paint and coating standards.
What packaging and logistics configurations are available for global shipping?
We offer shipping in 200L steel drums (180kg/drum), ISO tanks (approx. 20-22 tons per tank), and bulk vessels. Our close proximity to Qingdao Port allows us to provide efficient logistics, customs clearance, and GHS-compliant hazardous goods paperwork.
Can you customize the distillation ranges and Kauri-Butanol values?
Yes, our advanced fractional distillation units can be calibrated to isolate specific boiling fractions. We work closely with our client's formulation chemists to manufacture custom-spec solvent thinners with targeted flashpoints and solvency metrics.
What compliance and sustainability measures are implemented at your factory?
Shandong Saier Chemical operates in full compliance with local environmental laws. We use high-efficiency Zeolite Rotor VOC containment machinery to capture vapor emissions, minimize production waste, and actively expand our low-naphthalene range (such as S150ND) to help clients meet global environmental targets.
